Therapy for Loss & Grief

Grief & Loss Can Be Overwhelming, But Professional Counseling Can Help

Loss changes us. Whether your loss is recent or long-standing, you may find yourself dealing with emotions that feel unfamiliar, overwhelming, or difficult to understand.

Grief is not limited to the death of a loved one. We can also experience loss and grief through:

  • Divorce or relationship endings

  • Changes in health or independence

  • Loss of a job, a role, or an identity

  • Miscarriage or infertility

  • Retirement

  • Changes in family relationships

  • Empty nest

Grief takes many forms. It can include sadness, numbness, anger, guilt, loneliness, and exhaustion. Sometimes the hardest part is feeling that nobody fully understands what you are experiencing.

Therapy can help.

With more than 25 years of experience, I provide a safe and supportive environment where you can talk openly about your experience without pressure, judgment, or expectations about how you “should” feel.  Everyone handles grief differently, and there is no right or wrong way.

My approach is thoughtful, compassionate, and collaborative. Together, we will work to help you process emotions, strengthen coping skills, and gradually begin to feel like yourself again.

If you are struggling with a loss and would like some help getting through it, reach out for a consultation today.

Frequently Asked Questions Loss & Grief

1. Friends & Acquaintances Have Said Hurtful Things About My Grief. It Really Feels Like They Don’t Get It.

Loss and grief are a difficult topic for many people.  They are likely uncomfortable with your pain and trying to find a “silver lining” or a positive aspect of your loss to help you feel better.  Unfortunately this often results in you feeling that they just don’t understand. In therapy, your feelings are accepted, not minimized or dismissed with platitudes.

2. I’ve Been Told That I Should Be “Over” My Loss by Now. What Is the Timeframe for Recovering From a Loss?

There is no schedule or typical timeframe for loss or grief.  Everyone grieves in their own unique way and in their own time. Be patient with yourself.  However, if you feel like you are stuck and just can’t get on with life, you may be experiencing complicated grief, and therapy can help.
